The event isn't dispatch when using the method setVal from the outside, only by _onDayClick method.

The demo doesn't work with bem-components ^v5.1.1 (no compiled css from the design level).

calendar should be useful by itself not just inside a popup. So everything about popup should be moved to input_has-calendar.

I suppose that, when we open popup with calendar we have to toggle focus modifier on input.
Now it toggles only on focusing the input, but not on icon click.
