I see your point:
while slideshow recursive is running, changing the type of file view force a refresh that make the current (displayed) image directory the current directory.
Then the slideshow is interupted.
I guess it would be better to keep the displayed directory instead of "moving" to another unpredictable directory.

in rev. 1726 the recursive slideshow updates selected file and also survives layout changes.
