Oh Hai,
Loving the tool, I've just totally spun some baddass instances. However, I'm now overwhelmed with an urge to tag them against the project for reporting and billing purposes. How about an update tags feature that could read out the tags in the .rc and update them against running instances?

If possible, it would be helpful to show some of the rules associated with the selected Security Group.

E.g. selecting a t1.micro instance without EBS storage, or with an EBS that's too small. These exceptions are currently dumped to the shell as stack traces full of XML, which isn't friendly.

The choice_prompt and text_prompt utility functions should support passing in a default which is shown in the prompt and selectable by pressing Enter without providing any other input.

Obviate the slightly tedious need to copy the touchpaperrc.sample file – generate one via some brief Q&A with the user. Offer to save in cwd or ~.

Not sure if this is a good idea or particularly desired, but might be useful.

Some AMIs seem to have a lower bound on EBS volume size, e.g. t1.micro with EBS <8GB in size. See if it's possible to programatically detect this and feed back with a friendly warning.
