There is no machine instruction for x**y so how could I re-write the following function in assembly? Is there a way to call the math.sqrt function directly from machine code perhaps?

def float_array_power(x, n, y):
    if isinstance(y, array):
        y = y[0]
    for i in range(n):
        x[i] = math.pow(x[i], y)
