Project is on hold, as the vibration sensors are proving too inconsistent to allow reliably knowing when the washer or dryer are running (or not running). Carefully tuning the sensors sensitivity will get things working for a few hours, but soon they are again either sending false positives or not reporting actual vibration.

One option might be to try using higher quality sensors (the ones i'm using appear to be basically a spring in cylinder that makes contact with the sides when shaken), or to switch to detecting alternating current in the power cords for the two devices. The latter seems like it would be pretty foolproof, and would simplify the code a lot.
