@39 got a sass compile error with lightness

on line 3 of /home/.../bizlight_theme/sass/_functions.scss
from line 6 of /home/.../bizlight_theme/sass/app.scss
Use --trace for backtrace.

I tried to used 'red' as color as a test but the same issue arised.
Error: Undefined operation: "ligthness(red) gt 50".

I lloked to the documentation but nothing helps so far

Hi Brad, sorry for opening an issue here but I didn't know where else to ask the question.
I'm having trouble with font-awesome.
All of my icons are just squares in the main css file.
ex:

.fa-exclamation-triangle:before {
  content: ""; }

My css file is in root/public/css/main.css
I have a fonts folder in the root
In my main scss file I have @import "../bower_components/font-awesome/scss/font-awesome";
And in root/bower_components/font-awesome/scss/_variable.scss, I have

$fa-font-path:        "../../fonts" !default;

Could you please help me?
