recipes-brenot-ca's Issues

Images everywhere!

There should be a nice place on the recipe page for a single image, which will go in the thumbnail on index pages.

Recipe ratings

I believe a 1-5 star rating feature is necessary for Google to list recipes.

Improve editor preview

The editor preview does not look anything like the final page, and is outright missing some data.

Better format for index pages

Index pages should look nicer. They should:

  • show a better, but still concise summary of the recipe including some of the recipe metadata

More colour and personality in the theme

I don't want the theme to have so much "personality" that it gets in the way, but it's pretty bland as it is right now.

PaperMod is an okay starting point, but it's a bit overwhelming with its grey blandness.

  • Change the color scheme.
    • More color. An accent color or two would be nice.
    • Replace the grey and the other grey with something different
    • Use a stronger white color for the body font.
  • Use font size/color/type contrast to control gaze a little better
  • Brand the top bar a bit better (shouldn't just show "Home")
  • Wider column width (current width is weird in landscape)

Recipe schema

Recipes should be spit out in a way that's compatible with the schemas that are being expected by:

  • Google (search and assistant)
  • Recipe apps that support copying recipes from web pages, provide examples here

Improve presentation of recipe properties

Recipe properties including cook time, prep time, etc. need to be presented more nicely

There should be a nice table at the top of the recipe with these properties in a compact format, and room for icons.

Add "additional time" property to recipes

Recipes have "prep" and "cook" time, they should also have an extra "additional" time (like AllRecipes.com does) to represent additional time used for, e.g. chilling, rising, resting, etc.

  • In the recipe template
  • In NetlifyCMS

Print format

CSS format or altogether separate page template for printing

Easy offline download

Some way of getting the whole site downloaded for use offline. Preferably something someone non-technical could use.

I've considered but haven't settled on

  • Use the markdown files directly via
    • A VS Code plugin
    • An Obsidian plugin
  • Have a one-button way of downloading the site itself (the whole frontend, excluding NetlifyCMS)
