Setuptools (and the packaging ecosystem in general) is moving away from setup.py. I'd like to see this project migrate as well.

To support inclusivity, many projects have migrated away from the branch name "master". I'd like to see this project do the same.

I can make the change if you grant me admin access to the repo. Or you can follow the guidance here.

Per #1 and other improvements over the years, I'd like to update the guidance and metadata published in PyPI.

To add a collaborator in PyPI:

1. Log into PyPI.
2. Browse to the project (https://pypi.org/project/backports).
3. Click
   
4. Select
   
5. Add the collaborator's user name under User and select a role. Owners can administer other collaborators and perform other maintenance operations like yanking and deleting. Maintainers can upload new versions only. Click Invite.

My username in pypi is the same as here.

In jaraco/backports.entry_points_selectable#5, Brandon raised the concern about packages that are Python 3 only (or that have PEP 420 support, i.e. Python >= 3.3). I can provide some background on the concern and some proposals here.
