Compilation of information about setting up and using Sony NEWS Unix workstations. There is limited information about NEWS workstations, especially in English. Hopefully this will help preserve information about these workstations. This is very much a work-in-progress.

unless having the appropriate dumped rom images! In case without having any legal restrictions, would be handy if they were shared to the public. The reason for this issue: one of my friends owns a different hw, namely a nws-3260 - in order to boot it, there is a need for a preinstalled vm hdd image even for a slightly different nws machine - these steps might accelerate reverse engineering attempts for that portable sony stuff. That machine suffers from several defections, making floppy disk unit and optical drives unusable as a boot device.

Take decent pictures of my 5000X

Not many good pictures of the 5000X on the internet, especially of the internals.

Figure out patch process for RTC/Y2K patch disc

I have a CD-ROM with clock patches for NEWS-OS 6 (also seems to have files for 4.2.1R) - I need to figure out the install process and document it.

Could you add more details nws5000x-mame.md about network devices on MAME?

I'd like to run NEWS-OS on MAME.

So I have a question.
I installed NEWS-OS 4.2.1aRD on MAME. Install's ok. NEWS-OS is working.
but Network is not working. I'd like to use X-Window.

• Installed MAME on Windows WSL ubuntu
• MAME version is 0.251 for linux
• mame -listnetwork
  Available network adapters
  TAP/TUN Device
• taputil.sh
  taputil.sh yone 192.168.10.40 192.168.10.110 #probably ok

Maybe MAME doesn't connent network adapter.

Where is "the Network Devices menu." in MAME?
I can't find "network devices" in "General Setting" and "System Setting".
Could you add more details where is the "network device" on MAME.
