atalanta's Issues

1st word of every discourse is formatted as small caps+

Specifically, 1st word of each discourse has:

  1. Initial letter is drop cap
  2. 2nd letter is larger than the norm
  3. rest is in small caps.

This is only marked in 14, where the V is marked as I am removing this and we can re-encode all the pages at once properly.

apostrophe for elision in German

I don't think this should be encoded as an abbreviation - is equivalent to "didn't" but will ask Tara. There are 5 of these

tilde / macron

There is a discussion on TEI-L about the punctuation mark used to indicate abbreviations being a combining macron which is a different character from the tilde, which is an accent. Should consider going through and testing whether the tildes in <abbr> are macrons and change them.

Emblem 14, german epigram, line 3

the overflowing verse line that is completed below is marked as:
verdries<pc>=</pc><hi rend="sling-below">s<pc>(</pc>set<pc>/</pc></hi></l>

there also seems to be an extra s before the <pc>(</pc>

elsewhere these are marked with <add>
I'm not sure which is better. I'm leaning towards the <hi>, however.

q with apex is the same as q with grave

There are 3 <hi rend="apex">q</hi> elements in the Praefatio ad Lectorem. I think they are the same as <hi rend="grave">q</hi> elsewhere, so I am changing them. Listed below in case we want to go back on the change.

german verse wrapped lines

There are 5 places where a line in the German epigram spills above or below because it's too long to fit on one line. These are marked with a <span rend="sling-below"> or <span rend="sling-above">.

Currently I am just exporting the text, not fiddling with the formatting. However, some of them have punctuation that is still visible to indicate the wrap. Will have to eliminate.

e with hook and e with tail are the same

There were 42 <hi rend="hook">e</hi> elements and 3 <hi rend="tail">e</hi> elements. They appear to be the same thing, so I've collapsed them all into "hook". For the record, in case they are different,

emblem30.xml

rend="lead-tail" and rend="hook"

with p as content - I think it's the same character. There are 8 lead-tail attributes in emblem and 1 hook attribute in emblem 25. both look mostly like this: Ꝓ

and they all expand to pro. so going with "hook" in Unicode it's p with flourish. It's a brevigraph for "pro".

deal with g elements

add glyphs, make sure that all are encoded the same way. that includes ae, oe ligatures

very strange abbreviations

I was checking for what elements appear inside <abbr> that aren't <hi> or <am - result is mostly line breaks which are the bane of my existence. But that's what I was looking for, so it's ok.

However, i also found that there were 4 very strange and deeply nested <expan> elements which I don't think should appear inside <abbr>. They are pretty convoluted. Would you mind taking a look?

Don't forget to do a git pull, have made fair amount of small changes.

rend value for hi element: caps and capital

I found mostly <hi rend="caps"> but there are 6 cases where I found <hi rend="capitals">. listed below. is this the same as caps or does it indicate something different.

hi element has both latin and roman as values

Mostly, you have <hi rend="ligature">xx</hi> but there are some places where you use "roman" instead of "Latin" and it appears to be pretty much the same types of words and usage. Are these different or should "roman" be collapsed to "latin"

sic-corr and orig-corr

There are 32 <choice> elements which contain <sic><corr> pairs and a few <orig><corr> pairs. Some should probably be<sic><corr>, and others <orig><reg>
