X-cost cards are currently an exception to the rule that you pay when you channel a card. All attempts to make them work like other cards have so far been unsuccessful. My attempts to make them work are discussed below:

• Instrumenting the X-cost cards to use a stored energy value would be the most desirable action. However, this would require patching all cards, which is generally impossible for cards from other mods unless a patch annotations is created to do this.
• Stashing away the energy doesn't work because there are relics like Gremlin Horn that gain energy when monsters are defeated, and it's not possible to distinguish their effects from Reinforced Body's effect that consumes all your energy.
• Tagging all the actions to signal when you're owed energy would require patching all actions with a tag value, and instrumenting the method calls to apply these tags. This is generally impossible with actions from other mods unless a patch annotations is created to do this.
