This is the simple Flask project behind https://maas.io.

Development

The simplest way to run the site is with the dotrun snap:

dotrun

Afterwards the website will be available at http://localhost:8006.

When you start changing files, the server should reload and make the changes available immediately.

Building CSS

For working on Sass files, you may want to dynamically watch for changes to rebuild the CSS whenever something changes.

To setup the watcher, open a new terminal window and run:

./run watch

Deploy

You can find the deployment config in konf/site.yaml

maas.io's Issues

Need to provide responsive images

On small screens we should load smaller images. Please use the asset server with the w and h params to easy the work here.

[docs] link to old docs

Spoke to Kiko Friday to confirm which docs need to be on the website in addition to 2.0 docs. We need to link to 1.9, 1.7, 1.5 because those are the versions of MAAS on trusty and precise.

Since the docs are not in the right format for importing to the new site, we could link to the old docs on MAAS.ubuntu.com, with old layout. We do need a link back to maas.io latest docs.

The footer logo is under the text

It seems are standard is to remove the footer logo on small screens. Also should it be Ubuntu?

Consistency issue - missing links

Search facility for docs is non-existent

Please implement a search facility for the MAAS documentation. Thank you.

Images are not loading

The local images are not loading in Chrome on Android.

web site menu headings cannot be linkless

I cannot get a header in the menu to be linkless. The resulting HTML header always has a link pointing to the most recently visited URL.

MAAS video needs to be updated

Missing instructions in Getting Started page

it mentions "BMC". But it does not have a hyperlink, or anything else, to define that that means.

Combine list on homepage

On mobile the list under the hero on the homepage has a gap when it should continue seamlessly.

Tour page

the "get started" button looks like you are getting started on subnets as it's within that section.

Home page issue

Summary

Homepage has duplicate content and the insights blog is not showing any content

Process

Current and expected result

Non replication of content adn the blog posts to be visible

Update the SASS parser to provide a relevant include-path

Soon cloud-vanilla-theme will expect to find vanilla-framework within the SASS include paths. So we will have to update the SASS parser to include node_modules in the include-path.

We will also need to start using NPM 3 or newer, so that vanilla-framework is pulled directly into node_modules rather than some sub-folder.

Title tag generation not working

Summary

The <title> tags are not being properly generated for all pages.

Process

Go to, for example, http://maas.io/get-started (but it could be any page)

Current and expected result

Current: title is "MAAS |"
Expected title is "MAAS | Get started"

Wrong port in Getting started steps

Step 4 should say

"Login to the MAAS UI at http://<your.maas.ip>:5240/MAAS/"

External icon on docs link

On small screens the external icon on the d docs link is hardly visible.

Smaller logos on smaller screens

Personally I think the logos on the homepage should be reduced in on small screens. This will allow the text (context) and logos to be visible on the same screen

Prices look like links

On the homepage I thought the process were links as there using our link color.

Numbered steps touching left edge

On the get-started page on small screens the numbered steps are touching the left edge of the screen.

Docs in the repo?

I didnt think we were including the docs in the repo? I thought we would use a submodule?

currently the markdown isn't parsing the images

RHEL and SUSE images advertised

Zero-touch deployment of Windows, Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL and SUSE

But I don't see a way to get Windows, RHEL and SUSE images OOB.

[docs] make the left hand nav remain open after selected

currently the nav collapses after you use it... it should stay open to the level of the clicked link

Footer side by side instead of stacking

On small screens the footer sections stack. I think they could sit side by side with some bespoke styling at this viewport.

MAAS video not playing in lightbox

The latest news title could be smaller

On the homepage. I think the "The latest MAAS news" heading should be reduced to a h3.

MAAS doesn't have to run on an LTS release

If LTS was added because of the support options please ignore

Problems with .html extensions

The Doc team policy for linking is shifting towards the following format:

For such links, I noticed that, when inspecting http://staging.maas.io/docs/ , that the .html extensions were not being stripped during the doc build process, making the links break.

WIndows has a capital "I" on the home page

On the homepage "Zero-touch deployment of WIndows, Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL and SUSE", has "Windows" with a capital "I".

Headers not set on different pages

Summary

On the different pages the header just says "MAAS |". This should be say "MAAS | How it works". This will help with search engines as well. The home page header should also give a very short description of MAAS to help with SEO.

Process

Visit any page on maas.io and check the page header in the browser.

[docs] fix the importer to remove the .html on internal doc links

django removes the .html extension, we need to remove them from the docs as well

Convert all assets to use the asset server

Summary

All image assets currently live locally on the MAAS.io website. All assets should be converted to use the asset server.

apt-get dist-upgrade should not be a step in the install MAAS

I don't think you should have "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" in Step 2 of installing MAAS. That is not a requirement of MAAS installation.

/docs doesn't exist

The landing page for the docs section is at /docs/intro-about-maas, meaning /docs goes to a 404. This is not ideal. Fix it.

Docs are not responsive

Summary

The docs on the site is not responsive. The menu should be visible and the content be full witdth.

Process

Visit the docs section of the site on a small screen device.

Current and expected result

Currently the menu is hidden behind the content and content has margin left.
I would expect to see the menu above the content and the content to be full width of the screen.

The latest stable bits for MAAS first get released to our stable PPA. Users can add it via the command
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:maas/stable

This should be done before running sudo apt-get update.

The last news item on the homepage is missing a date.

Typo on maas.io front page

Getting started page is out of date

The getting started page is presumably for an old version. I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 and MAAS 2.0 (sudo apt-get install maas) and the instructions don't match up.

The command sudo add-apt-repository ppa:maas/stable from step 3 doesn't work unless you first run sudo apt-get install software-properties-common

Running sudo maas-region-admin createadmin in step 4 generates a warning (WARNING: The maas-region-admin command is deprecated and will be removed in a future version. From now on please use 'maas-region' instead.)

Step 5 doesn't match up at all, there is no such tab.

This is as far as I've got so far, but it is clear that the page is in need of a significant update.

MAAS docs build/publish process is wonky

insights news feed not working

http://maas.io/tour is missing an image under heading 'Discovery and node listing'.

mass.io site not available via HTTPS

The mass.io site is not available via HTTPS, which is pretty standard these days.

First bullet has a spelling mistake

"Zero-touch deployment of WIndows, Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL and SUSE": the i on Windows is upper case when it shouldn't.

web site menu is limited to 2 children

I cannot get more than 2 children in the menu (context.yaml).

MAAS new logo update

Hey @richmccartney Tom has redesigned the MAAS logo so we need to update in the website.
I have linked to the relevant logo to certain sections of the site where it needs updating.
