ubuntu-desktop-hyper-v's Issues

Various issues running this image for everyday use

I am finding this image has quite a few issues getting in the way of ordinary use.

I don't have time to go into great detail on every one, but I'd like to offer this feedback in case it's useful:

  • Apt and snaps fill the disk after a couple of days of automatic updates.
  • Constant popups about systemd SIGABRTs and xrdp crashes.
  • Snap auto-updates pop up in gnome but cannot install because gnome is using them.
  • xrdp file shares cache out of date info.
  • xrdp file shares are inauthentic, don't work with docker volume mounts.
  • xrdp sessions don't cache sudo passwords.
  • gnome-control-center cannot apply some settings, such as ethernet ipv4 settings, in an xrdp session because it doesn't consistently sudo.
  • Hostnames only work intermittently.

It also took a lot of searching to find anywhere to submit this, as all technical support links seem to lead to helpdesks and bugs in particular packages, but these mostly feel specific to the image itself.

ssl-cert package is somewhat broken in the vhdx image

This is the closest project to the problem I've found. Submitting here I hope to find a way to the right issue tracker.

So, ssl-cert packages is installed in this image but files /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key and /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem which should be installed with the above package are missing. It could be that those files got removed after ssl-cert package is installed. The latter definitely makes sense, self-signed certificates should not be distributed with a shared image. However, the other software may need those files and probably during VM setup (at the first boot) /usr/sbin/make-ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil should be run.
