conda-ci-workshop's Issues

Write abstract and decide conference workshop content

How should this workshop be setup? I can imagine two possibilities:

  1. A teaching workshop, i.e. someone presents how to use conda with CI, etc.
  2. A discussion workshop: We discuss within the workshop at the conference how, for instance, the content of the repository. A conference paper, etc.

Personally, I would tend to 1) during the conference and consider 2) as something that needs to be done before the conference itself.

Is this useful?

I would like to discuss and get your opinions about whether this workshop is useful at all and should be submitted to the deRSE20 conference. I think, it is, but please tell me if I am wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰

Workshop outcomes

Besides the workshop itself, my idea would be to turn this repository into a template repository that contains 1) CI configuration templates for various services (Travis CI, Appveyor, etc.), and 2) a template for a conda recipe that uses the GIT commit in the build string, as well as a more advanced example where conda build tests different versions of the dependencies. An example would be the CI configuration of the psyplot package (https://github.com/Chilipp/psyplot) where I already do this for Travis CI and Appveyor.

Any opinions on this?

Where should this repository live?

I have no opinion about where to host this repository here for the workshop. If we would want to make a blog post about it, maybe it makes sense to transfer the ownership to the DE-RSE github organization? Don't know if this is possible and whether it confirms with the rules of de-RSE. May @sdruskat knows?
