About

Chiron Sans HK (昭源黑體) is a sans-serif CJK typeface designed for Traditional Chinese users, especially for those in Hong Kong. It is derived from Source Han Sans, a Pan-CJK typeface jointly developed by Adobe and Google.

Motivation

Source Han Sans version 2.0 released in late 2018 was a major update to version 1.0. This version added a second Traditional Chinese flavor adhering to Hong Kong’s orthography standard. The glyphs in this new HK variant were designed according to the then latest published Reference Glyphs for Chinese Computer Systems in Hong Kong (香港電腦漢字參考字形) document.

Glyphs depicted in this document are of no doubt more suitable for Hong Kong when compared to Taiwan’s orthography standard, reflected in the Standard Typefaces for Chinese Characters or 國字標準字體 documents which the original Traditional Chinese variant of Source Han Sans was based on. However, the document's general principle of adopting the stroke types of written form (Kai Style 楷書) for the printed form (usually represented by Song Style 宋體) still resulted in some odd-looking character shapes being introduced to printed form typefaces.

Based on the Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) variant of Source Han Sans, Chiron Sans HK took references from successful commercial Traditional Chinese font products (widely used in printed materials in Hong Kong) to provide an orthographic variant that is more aesthetically pleasing, and which Hong Kong people are generally more familiar with.

A Pro version of the font, which integrates the full glyph set of Adobe’s Souce Sans 3, is also available.

舊版「思源黑」收錄了兩種字形的尘 新版刪除了 建議把尘 替換成舊版的「尘」只是建議 並不算bug 改不改都可 畢竟「尘」屬於不常用的俗字

Regressions in v2.029

1. With the removal of 準 because of the fix in upstream, the redesign of 轍徹底 in Chiron Sans HK had also been removed by accident. This affects all variants.
2. I forgot to update the TTF version build routine, so TTF version was still built upon v2.001, not v2.002. Hence, changes in Source Han Sans v2.002 hadn't been incorporated in the TTF version. As Chiron Sans HK v2.029 removed local changes that had been done in upstream (like mapping of Ext-G characters), these features are now missing.

Suggestion to Revert or Modify the Glyph for 翁

Thank you for providing this beautiful font! I did noticed though that the top and bottom components of the glyph for 翁 do not match the aesthetics of other similar characters. Below are some examples:

I just wanted to bring this to your attention for possible reverting or modifying if you so choose to.

⾬(U+2FAC) is not changed to glpyh as 雨(U+96E8)

I think they should share same glyph.

關於昭源甄黑體版本的詢問

個人覺得昭源甄黑體修改的部件一點都不比新版思源黑差 並且還花了很多精力修改維護 即使不更新刪掉也是可惜了
剛從互聯網博物館恢復了昭源甄黑體 兩個都為otf版
請問哪個更好 兩者有甚麼區別嗎?

我有一個開源字體項目 求大神代為發佈

這個項目是基於開源字體「香港民間字集」(https://github.com/hfhchan/hkcs)
我對其進行增補可替換的異體字(458字) 並對部分字形進行優化
製作平臺使用「字形維基」線上繪製
這個字體製作初衷是能盡可能顯示古字 所以收錄了擴展b區漢字
為了節省空間 不收簡體中文 幽靈漢字
重繪的漢字結構 參考ipamj明朝 思源明朝
因為語言匱乏 不認識英文 加之有時還需要翻牆，字體編輯技術差等等諸多原因
懇請大神代為發佈 如能完善該字體那是最好 感謝
最後作為繁體中文使用者感謝大神的為對開源字體的貢獻

關於介紹文本的建議

有些筆畫本來不屬「標準差異」，但思源黑體因為各種原因以「地區差異」將寫法區分。昭源黑體會盡量選擇設計較佳的版本，不拘泥於原來字體對該種筆畫的地區劃分。
大多數筆畫的相連與否其實不屬標準差異。「無」字上方和「⺮（竹花頭）」部件，昭源黑體決定選用「中日韓」版本的上下相連版本，因為這比「港台」版的做法可以減低視覺辨認上的混亂。
「金、食」等「人」部件在頂部的字，思源黑體對「人」字兩筆起筆是否黏連視為「日韓」版和「中港台」的地區差異（日韓版黏連，中港台版則否）。但事實上黏連寫法起碼在港台標準並無問題。昭源黑體選用整體設計明顯較佳的「日韓」版字形（試比較圖例中「鏜」字兩個版本的佈局差異）。
雖然不屬標準差異，為保持排版時字形一致，昭源黑體仍會按選定式樣重繪相同部件的字，例如圖中「鈽」字就是昭源黑體重繪版本。
因着「人」部件的選擇，昭源黑體設計了本來思源黑體沒有的「日版亼」加「港版艮」的「食」字部件。
加粗「中」字均改爲「陸」字，以免獲指控爲「台獨」「港獨」。

因為工作原因需要Export PDF 的功能, 使用了Google font中的Noto fonts, 卻不幸發現OTF 版本與dompdf 有相衝， 不能開啟Font subsetting （do not have glyf table) , 而令到PDF 文檔因文字匯入而非常龐大， 幸好找到了TTF 版的昭源黑體 ， 謝謝作者
