gh_wind's Introduction

GH_Wind

Wind Simulation (FFD) plugin for Rhinoceros Grasshopper.

Please refer to this publication for citation: Waibel et al. (2017). It also includes validation and comparison studies with OpenFOAM and wind tunnel experiments.

Installation

The current build can be found in the Tutorials folder. Place FastFluidSolverMT.dll and GHWind.gha into your Rhino Grasshopper components folder and you are good to go.

Examples

Try out the *.gh and *.3dm files in the Tutorials folder as examples. The folder also contains two optimization examples (200528_Highrise.ghand 200528_Breathability.gh) from Waibel et al. (2019). See the paper for a description of the problems.

some error when load grasshooper

Hi,I am a new user from China. I have drop FastFluidSolverMT.dll and GHWind.gha to Grasshooper library folder. But when I create a rhino model and start grasshoppper , it gave me some unknown error. Please help me to debug it.

run several wind directions in parallel

make an option / component to run several wind directions in parallel, each wind direction being assigned 1 thread. Or you can specifiy how many wind directiosn (e.g. 4) and threads are assigned auitomatically, e.g. cpu has 16 threads, so each wind direction gets 16/4 threads.

Velocity on section

Hello, thank you for ghwind
How we can get velocities of the current section?
Are the lengths of the lines equal to the velocities?

VTK file & forces data

Hello,

First, congratulations for this amazing job you did with this solver !
I have started playing with it, and I'll probably try to run on a ship model to visualize quickly the aerodynamics flow.

I have several questions still :

  1. If I set the ExpVTK toggle on true, I don't see any file created. Am I looking in the wrong place maybe (residuals txt file is created next the 3dm and gh file correctly) or did I make something wrong ?
  2. Using the FFD solver V2 component, I can't get the flow visualization updated at every time step. The Grasshopper window seems frozen and only the computation infos appears in the Rhino command bar (whereas the CP V1 example works fine with the old solver component and Grasshopper timer). Is it possible to make the same using the FFD V2 solver component and see the visualization plane updated too ?
  3. I am wondering if it is possible to get the forces data of the computation, especially the Fx value at the end of convergence ? For the example of my ship, I would like to get the Fx value corresponding to his resistance against front wind.

Best regards,
Mathieu

Rename-Project-Ghc

Rename the project to ... something better than GH_Wind
And rename the grasshopper components classes to Ghc<Name> , because GH_<Name> is already used for Grasshopper's own classes

gh-components-cleaning-up

grasshopper components need to be cleaned up. which inputs and outputs, how do they connect, which components do what? etc.

  • 'terrain/mode' is used for both surface roughness, and to switch the inflow profile. bad!
  • solver V1 and V2, one is for live simu, the other not. kinda similar to Kangaroo. look at how they organized it
