Cabin ambient lighting doesn't work w/ KSPIV head
KSPIV head has an ambient light app with the correct colors, but nothing happens when you tap the color tiles.
I've isolated the appropriate frames on HS-CAN when changing colors with the factory head/app, but the lights don't change when I send the frames myself either. Not sure what's up with this one. The lights themselves might be on I-CAN with the HS-CAN frames being just FYI?
Need to play around more.
Amplifier fade doesn't work w/ KSPIV head
Balance (left-right) works fine, but Fade (front-back) doesn't work at all. Attenuating or muting the fronts in the UI kills all of the speakers in the vehicle and attenuating or muting the rears does nothing.
KSPIV amplifier must be "enabled" by Radio app before any other app can make sound
No other apps (Waze, Pandora, YouTube, etc.) make any sound unless you open Radio and select a station first. Selecting the station in Radio seems to enable the amplifier and it then stays enabled when you exit Radio.
Factory GPS antenna not plug-and-play for KSPIV head
The GPS works pretty well using the antenna that came with the head unit, but doesn't work at all if I connect the OEM antenna instead. Is it possible to use the OEM antenna or is there an impedance mismatch or some such?
App launcher
I'll never use most of the apps on the launcher and I'd very much like to replace them with the apps I do use. There is some deep configuration ability to disable some of the launcher icons like YouTube/File Manager/DVR, but I haven't found any way to add or arrange the apps that I want.
Autodimming doesn't dim enough on KSPIV head
Autodimming works, but even dimmed, the screen stays too bright for night driving. I've used the Twilight app on other Android headunits and it works on this one as well, but it would be nice if the built-in functionality had range that Twilight has without having to run a helper app.
In-dash display
Unsurprisingly, the display isn't supported by the KSPIV unit as it uses some proprietary protocol. If I feel adventurous, I may try to figure it out and see if I can give back to the community. Interestingly, the Compass display that I leave on this mini-screen now displayed the correct current time for a few seconds today then went back to --:--
. I don't know if it's getting that time from GPS or the head unit or....?
Mobile connectivity for KSPIV head
Works great OOTB with my phone's Wifi hotspot. Works great OOTB over USB with a Netgear M1. The M1 reboots over and over if you don't have the battery in it and if you leave the battery in without driving often, the battery will die and the unit needs a few minutes of charging before it works again.
Driver's door speaker is dead
I think the speaker actually is dead as opposed to being a problem with the head unit as all of the rest of the speakers work. Need to test the speaker itself first and go from there.
A/C "rear lock" is reversed on SKPIV head
The rear controls work when Rear Lock is enabled on the head unit and the head unit overrides them when Rear Lock is disabled. This should be reversed -- the rear controls should work when Rear Lock is disabled and be overridden when it is enabled.
Playing with CAN
Since basically everything is on CAN buses, I need to do some research here and figure out how to at least listen and hopefully interact.
KSPIV reverse view track lines don't follow the wheel position
The lines on the display are curved, so it should be supported. Sniffing around on HS-CAN, I've seen wheel position, so this should just be a function of interpreting the wheel position frames and sharing that info w/ KSPIV.
Reverse camera doesn't work right w/ KSPIV head
Front, Side, and Rear views all work in the Cam Viewer app, but when I put the vehicle in reverse, the screen goes blank and never shows a video, no matter which input I have it plugged into.
KSPIV head doesn't talk with factory amp / DSP
Using any application, the amplifier volume before distortion leaves something to be desired. I don't feel I listen to music super loud, but this unit is right about comfortable listening level right about the same time it starts to distort at around 30-35 on the volume gauge. IIRC, the max is 40 and at anything above 35, it's completely distorted.
Heated / Cooled front seats don't work w/ KSPIV head
The icons are there in the A/C control screen, but they don't respond to touches (don't turn blue like the other icons) and the seats do not heat / cool.
