The author macro has nothing to do with this.
The style is hardcoded to be in portuguese.
You either switch the language in line 2 to English, like so: default-locale="en-GB"
Or redefine the term in the locale section, but I don't think you want that.

hey Brien, thanks for the reply. I thought the " e " connector was supposed to be on the author area. But I don't understand why I would need to switch the default language in the .csl, since I define it as en-US in my .tex and other Brazilian citation styles automatically change from " e " to " and "

TeX doesn't use CSL styles at all. They are completely different systems.

If you use the citeproc-lua package or write your document with pandoc, you can use CSL styles. But otherwise TeX has nothing to do with CSL, and BibTeX/BibLaTeX styles work very differently than CSL styles.

Ohh okay, got it! Yeah, I use Quarto, which uses pandoc under the hood and I include .tex files for additional parameters.

Pandoc generates its citations before passing the document to TeX, so anything that affects citation formatting will be done on the CSL side not the TeX side.
