creating the virtualenv

python3 -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip3 install -r requirements.txt

shadows

python thing.py --method list_things

mocks

docker build -t mock-aws-iot:latest .
sudo docker run -d -p 5000:5000 mock-aws-iot:latest
aws --endpoint-url=http://127.0.0.1:5000 --no-verify-ssl --region=us-east-1 iot list-things

and the response:
