es.codeformiami.org's Issues

Code for Miami should remove the Spanish and Creole translations of its name from its logo.

Every organization should have three things: a name, a logo, and an slogan. Code for Miami has the first two, but it is missing the third one. Instead, Code for Miami has its name translated in two more languages, Spanish, and Creole, which are taking up space in Code for Miami's logo (where the slogan could go). My proposition is to remove the two translations of Code for Miami from the logo, and use that space for an slogan.

Code for Miami is a name, and names don't need to be translated, actually it is a drawback to do it. An organization or company is recognized by its name, and having multiple translations of it is like having multiple names, and that only leads to confusion. It is a good idea to translate the website, the apps, and even the slogan, but not the name. If I ask any Spanish speaker, "What do you think about the last programming language 'Manzana' put out?" he/she will look weird at me and say, "What?" However, if I say "Apple" instead of "Manzana" everyone, despite the language he/she speaks, will understand my question.

That is why I think Code for Miami should remove the Spanish and Creole translations of its name from its logo and use that area for an slogan. Please comment about what you think and share some ideas for the slogan. Right now I can only think about something like:

CODE FOR MIAMI
"Changing our community through technology."
