competitor-groups's Introduction

Me

I'm Cailyn Hoover. I make cool software.

I've been coding since mid 2010 and have dabbled in dotnet, java game dev, and websites. I've mainly been focusing on websites and have been since 2014.

I have an enthusiastic interest in writing code for people and myself. I like taking parts of my life and automating them.

My big fascination right now is writing websites for my niche hobby of cubing.

You may have heard of letscube, a webapp that connects cubers together to race in real time powered by nodejs, websockets, and react.

I run WCA competitions. I have developed various tools for managing them:

I'm hapily employed at Circle. Come work for us!

Letscube

My biggest website is letscube which hosts over 8000 registered users. This platform connects cubers together and lets them race eachoher solving rubik's cubes.

Funfacts

  • My language of choice is Javascript
  • The fastest I've solved a rubik's cube is 6.34 seconds
  • I've been to 50+ WCA Sanctioned competitions putting on almost half of them
  • I'm also the lead delegate for the PNW
  • Electronic music is my favorite music genre

competitor-groups's Issues

WCA OAuth Login Failing

When trying to login, I am greeted by the message: Client authentication failed due to unknown client, no client authentication included, or unsupported authentication method. I have tested this on Opera GX and Chrome

Hide non-human users

Once thewca/worldcubeassociation.org#8001 is resolved, "CubingUSA Treasurer" and "CubingUSA Nationals Organization Team" will appear in the list of competitors. This should probably be filtered to people who have at least one registered event or at least one assignment.

Give proper support for different types of assignment codes

On the competitor's own overview page, all types of possible assignments are written https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/RoskildeForAlle2022/persons/1

However, it lacks two kinds of (somewhat easy) supports.
1: For assignment codes, if there is a 'staff-' prefix, this should not be displayed. If the assignment code is listed as 'staff-runningJudge' it would be displayed as exactly that, where it would make sense to simply write 'runningJudge'.

2: On the activity overview (https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/RoskildeForAlle2022/activities/20), the other types of assignment codes are not listed. It should be as simple as making the same kind of header as for all the other assignments and list the people under it.

Times appearing in the location of the user rather than the location of the competition

We've had a couple of questions regarding competition groups for the competitions on the border of time zones (Michigan UP and Kentucky), where competitors were confused on which time zone the time is supposed to be in.

It would be helpful if the times that were listed match the times on the schedule rather than the time zone of the user, and additionally that it would list the time zone somewhere. I don't think there would be much of a reason to have the schedule on Competitiongroups be a different time zone than the actual competition, and I think this just confuses competitors (and can cause them to show up at the wrong time!)

"Rounds" page doesn't display runners

The "rounds" page (not sure what to call it) displays Compete, Judge, Scramble assignments, but is missing runners.

Example:
https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/BruggeOpen2023/events/333-r1

The first competitor, Aden, competes in 6 and runs in 2. The latter is not shown.

It is shown correctly on the "Person" page: https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/BruggeOpen2023/persons/157
And also correctly on the "Group" page: https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/BruggeOpen2023/activities/34
