I've been trying to get that implemented, without success. I'll try once again RC1 for Ruby Installer is out.

Yeah I got kind of hack on it

Though it spews out a warning "stty device is not something" when I use it [it does allow me to read from files, allowing me to run unit tests against readline, which is what I wanted :) ]

In your proposed patch I don't see any particular functionality that is going to make this work with redirection.

Please provide a concrete patch based on latest codebase (specially in a topic branch) and send a pull request.

It's this global that sets it or not.
$rb_readline_use_file_io_on_windows
But the patch was incomplete so you can probably ignore it. One worry is that not having this patch probably means that rb-readline has no unit tests, but I suppose worry about that one as it comes.
