cherry-mx-keycaps's Introduction

cherry-mx-keycaps

โš ๏ธ This is the thin-walled version of the keys which are more representative of the injected molded parts. For the thick-walled version of keys, which are better suited for machining out of material like wood, visit the thick-walled branch.

This repo contains 3D models of Cherry MX keycaps; widths included 1x1 through 1x2.5 for rows R1 through R4.

Dimensions were based off of those provided on the wasdkeyboards site as well as manualy checking them with calipers.

The single .step file located in STEP directory contains all the keys shown below; the STL directory contains files for each individual key for use in 3D printing (saved with medium refinement).

cherry-mx-keycaps's Issues

thick wall version

Is the thick wall version thickest / tightest? Or can I further increase the thickness?

OEM Profile

Hey, first of all, thank you for the great work!

I am a bit confused though: Those keycaps seem to be OEM profile and not Cherry profile. I mean, they fit on Cherry MX switches, but I was expecting something different - Maybe this could be stated in the README to avoid confusion (or it could just be me).

Also you cite wasdkeyboards.com as source for the measurements, but they only have measurements for width and height, not the angle from top to bottom and also not the radius of the top groove - I was wondering if you have another source/technical drawing for those measurements that you could share or if you took those measurements yourself.

widths are off

set at 18x2=36 but should be 37.1? this will apply to other widths also ...

+ holes too small after print.

I printed one of the models but it's too tight and I can't mount it on my switches (Cherry MX RED). I checked the dimensions of the models and it's exactly matching the switches. I think it should be a little bigger?
Could you please provide modifiable cad files (sldprt for example) so everyone can calibrate the dimensions based on their printer and switches?
