Development Tips

When testing new changes, a good way of adding them to a test rack is to build the image locally,push to a public repo and update the k8s deployment api:

docker build -t user/convox:tag .
docker push user/convox:tag
kubectl set image deploy api system=user/convox:tag -n rackName-system

If testing new changes in terraform, install the rack using the following command to have the /terraform folder mapped to the rack tf manifest.

/convox: CONVOX_TERRAFORM_SOURCE=$PWD//terraform/system/%s convox rack install aws rack1

After saving your changes, go to (Linux:~/.config/convox/racks/rack1 or OSX:/System/Volumes/Data/Users/$PROFILENAME/Library/Preferences/convox/racks and run terraform apply

Document available parameters for resource stack

It would be nice to have the available options documented when setting up the stack - here are the current params available:

• SseEnabled
• TablePrefix
• TtlEnabled

CloudFormation update fails on GSI changes

To reproduce:

• Launch a new stack using the version of formation.json at this commit.
• Wait for the stack creation to complete, then update the stack from the latest version of formation.json

Expected results:

Dynamo table updates

Actual Results:

CloudFormation fails with the error: Cannot perform more than one GSI creation or deletion in a single update and the update rolls back.

This doc has some info that says changes can't be made to indexes on multiple tables at once: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSCloudFormation/latest/UserGuide/aws-resource-dynamodb-table.html, but I'm seeing the error even when the change is to the same table (I think).

formation.json needs -events table

The Events tab errors without it.

Configure DynamoDB CloudWatch Alarms

The template should have additional resources for cloudwatch alarms that match the provisioned capacity for the various tables.

The alarms should be configured to deliver to a notification topic both when they exceed the threshold and when they return to nominal levels.

This SNS topic can be integrated with Pagerduty.
