I think this is actually not a good way of describing the problem here. We don't need Truffle to do this necessarily. In the context of truffle test it does automatically provide this feature if you use truffle-contract and the deployed() methods. However, here, we are not in the contract of a truffle test and thus we need a better approach. In this specific case, the real problem is that we are deploying contracts in this test file that is outside of the scope of a truffle test. In the future when we replace all of these calls to calls to a ProxyFactory we won't even need to handle linking at all.
