packagediff's Introduction

packageDiff

Easily compare changes between package versions.

YAML is a small package, but several major packages depend upon it

library(packageDiff)
a <- pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/yaml/yaml_2.1.18.tar.gz')
b <- pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/yaml/yaml_2.1.19.tar.gz')
pkgDiff(a, b)

Hmisc is a massive package

library(packageDiff)
pkgDiff(pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/Hmisc/Hmisc_4.1-1.tar.gz'),
        pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/Hmisc/Hmisc_4.2-0.tar.gz'))

ggplot2 has lots of magic

library(packageDiff)
pkgDiff(pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/ggplot2/ggplot2_3.1.0.tar.gz'),
        pkgInfo('https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/ggplot2/ggplot2_3.2.0.tar.gz'))

packagediff's Issues

packageDiff extended to source code files

Extend packageDiff to the analysis of the .h, .c, .cpp, .f, .rd files in their respective directories. For test purpose, you can compare the randtoolbox package whose updates (by Brian Ripley to match new gcc10 requirements) are in DESCRIPTION and also some .c and .h files. In the current version, packageDiff only detects the change in DESCRIPTION.

a <- "https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/randtoolbox/randtoolbox_1.30.0.tar.gz"
b <- "https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/randtoolbox_1.30.1.tar.gz"
