If I want to stick with S3 as the back end, there are limited ways to implement this:

1. Maintain copies of each game for each player, so something like:

• players
  • player1
    • games-in-progress
      • game1
      • game2
  • player2
    • games-in-progress
      • game1
      • game2

2. Maintain a file with the list of pending games

3. Maintain a file with the pending games themselves

Alternatively, you could maintain the list of games in another store, such as Dynamo.
