Hashcat wrapper tool to bypass current attack if crack rate drops below threshold.

Inspiration by: https://github.com/justpretending/avgdrop

Usage:

Default: -time 1m -crack 1

./crackmon ./hashcat {hashcat args}

Custom: -time 2m -crack 100

./crackmon -t 2 -c 100 ./hashcat {hashcat args}

For more info:

Examples:

(Defaults to -time 1m -crack 1)
./crackmon ./hashcat {hashcat args}

Custom: -time 2m -crack 100
./crackmon -t 2 -c 100 ./hashcat {hashcat args}

All flags:
	-t      	minimum runtime in minutes
	-c      	cumulative average cracks threshold
	-debug  	enable debug output
	-help   	show this help menu
	-version	show version info

For troubleshooting, run with -debug flag

Notes:

• Compiled and tested on debian 12 and Windows 11 Terminal

Compile from source:

• If you want the latest features, compiling from source is the best option since the release version may run several revisions behind the source code.
• This assumes you have Go and Git installed
  • git clone https://github.com/cyclone-github/crackmon.git
  • cd crackmon
  • go mod init crackmon
  • go mod tidy
  • go build -ldflags="-s -w" .

crackmon's Issues

Uses Recovered/Time AVG

Code uses Recovered/Time... AVG to calc cracking avg...

...but hashcat only prints this info on hashlists >= 1000.
hashcat/hashcat#3589
This means crackmon will not work with hashlists < 1000.
To fix this, logic needs added to calculate cracking average without relying on hashcat's Recovered/Time... AVG.

Goroutine Panic: Close on closed channel

Sending close(done) in goroutine for debug output causes goroutine panic due to closing closed channel.

flag -t doesn't work

Specifying flag -t does not change time from default.
ex: -t 5 does not change time to 5 minutes

Does not send keyboard commands on Windows 11

Tool cannot send keyboard commands to hashcat. Issue is due to Windows' limited PTY terminal support.

Power Shell
Windows Terminal
WSL

Tool does not currently work at all on cygwin64 (tool cannot see hashcat's output or send keyboard commands).
