faster on x86 with python style

def bcd_to_int_short(n):
return int(('%x' % n), base=10)

def int_to_bcd_short(n):
return int(str(n), base=16)

Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz, measured with timeit, number=10000, bcd#=1817, int#=1212:
bcd_to_int from github: 0.292476177216
bcd_to_int python style: 0.0966100692749
int_to_bcd from github: 0.115525007248
int_to bcd python style: 0.057177066803

Your functions are backwards...

Well, binary coded decimals are by nature higher than their integer counterparts... If you swap the names on your functions you will be good to go according to my math.
