looking at schemas more broadly, I've been researching different ways to define the column-wise schema of the dataset:

  • json schema is more developer oriented
  • json-schema is more flexible. primitive types include ‘object’ which is not a data type that is available or parsable for table representations in commonly-used spreadsheet software and analysis tools (http://json-schema.org/latest/json-schema-core.html#anchor8)
  • json-table-schema, on the other hand, has field types that include more higher-level representations, such as datetime vs. date, geopoint, geojson. it also has object, not preventing the above behavior. (http://dataprotocols.org/json-table-schema/)
  • since dat can store any arbitrary json it makes sense to allow for more flexible formats.
  • json-table-schema is not a subset of json-schema (too bad)
  • maybe we should create a json-schema subset that is specifically materialized for use with tabular data

from datbase.
