After seeing a site that aggregates data from this site / project, I was trying to figure out how to ingest the data into NetNewsWire to watch for updates when new sites are added.
The per category OPML files are great, but they're ephemeral and only represent the tip of the tree. I'm trying figure out if there is an easy way to produce RSS feeds of the different categories so my RSS reader can watch for new additions to the database. The git history provides the ordering that RSS feed need.
The entire goal is to have an automated way to be able to monitor for changes in the individual categories so I can investigate a new blog, then decide whether to subscribe to that new blog. Unfortunately, I know very little any of the technologies to make this possible.
Really, really love what you are doing with the iOS Dev Directory. Have you thought about including paid sites like https://nsscreencast.com or http://cartoonsmart.com? Maybe you could make a note on your site that they are paid only.
Would love to see your directory expand to encompass more resources and maybe even user reviews one day. Not sure we need the twitter/rss feed icons.
Oh yeah, another inactive blog - https://www.natashatherobot.com
Anyway, thanks again for putting this together.

Hi guys and thanks for taking the time to create and maintain this directory, it's really useful!
I wanted to contribute by adding a mention to the iOS Lead Essentials Program by Essential Developer (you probably know about it), but I'm not sure how to fit it to the current structure:
Not sure if this is relevant, but I did finish this program and I'm recommending it.
Thank you!
Given that Weibo is the dominated social media in China, and twitter has been blocked in China(we could only use it by breaking the GFW).
So can we add weibo_url
field for Chinese blog's author?
I noticed a few people I follow on Twitter don't have blogs but are someone I would want to put on this list. Any thoughts on adding a non-blog Twitter section?
There are a number of YouTube channels out there. Some well-established ones some upcoming and others are discontinued. It would be nice to list them here as iOS Development YouTube Channels
.
As the database grows it will become harder to extract meaningful sources from the lists. Community should be able to endorse the sources, which will prioritize them in the list.
Huge fan of iOS Dev Weekly and maybe this is a conflict of interest, but I think there should be a section for other iOS/Swift Newsletters.
https://swiftweekly.github.io/ - could be one to add.
Not sure if this is the best place to send a feature request for the site, but thought it would be really nice to have a voting system to raise the better blogs up to the top. It would also be nice to see when the latest post was added.
Quite a few in the iOS community are more active on Mastodon than on Twitter these days. Mastodon's search is quite flakey, so it'd be useful if this directory also allowed adding Mastodon URLs.
Would like to add a section for sites that track changes SDK, Swift versions and app store review guidelines. These are not exactly blog or newsletters so not sure which section to add them, thus recommending they get there own section. Need a better name than "Change Trackers".
Example site's for this category are:
Apple Platform SDK API Differences
What's new in Swift?
App store review guidelines history
A minor change: On the GitHub repository page for iOSDevDirectory, the website URL is http://iosdevdirectory.com, when it should be https://
This should be relatively easy, but will probably be complicated by whatever CI you're using (looks like Travis). Looks like you might be able to just add:
branches:
only:
- main
...to .travis.yml
after you rename it.
@daveverwer I just had the idea of adding a new category for Twitch channels after you had mentioned it in your last weekly newsletter. What do you think? Currently it seems to be relatively hard to find iOS development related Twitch streamers, your directory seems to be the perfect place for it.
Here's some streamers I'm aware of:
Yes - I know the title is iOS Dev Directory, but I certainly look to the iOS Dev newsletter for news on OSX development.
Should OSX Dev news not have a home?
