Call Cener Tool -- New 'Route Preferences' section for Trip Options box

Issue by msrichardson from Monday Sep 16, 2013 at 16:10 GMT
Originally opened as opentripplanner/OpenTripPlanner#1261

The agents have found instances where the preferred and banned routes do not return expected trips and therefore have requested a way to force the system to use certain route combinations (such as start with Route X; or start with Route X, then use Route Y).

Our proposal is a new Route Preferences Selector (see proposed layout below), which would replace the existing Preferred Routes (and associated weight bar) and Banned Routes functionality in the Trip Options box.

The Preferred Route(s) and Banned Route(s) areas will function essentially as they do today with the following two exceptions:

• Users would prefer to directly enter the route numbers (comma-delimited*)
• In lieu of a weight setting for Preferred Route(s), the weight would default to the highest setting (as if the bar were moved all the way to the right in the current format)

The Required Route(s) area would be used to force a trip to work in a certain way, essentially regardless of the time penalties, etc. Users can use any combination of the four fields (i.e., only enter an end route, enter a start and one 'contains', etc). As with the Preferred & Banned options, users would like to enter the route numbers directly.

Users would also like to be able to tab between the fields.

One question raised: Does requiring certain routes supersede the walk defaults?

*Preference is ability to enter with or without a space after the comma

Note: This request essentially negates issue #1181
