android-log-collector's Issues

It just don't work in i7500

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Just start it

On my first try on using the Xtralogic RDP client it crashed. The
installation of the log-collector was offered automatically and accepted
by me. After starting it started collecting, but this took so long I
assume it hangs. Later when retrying the same happened, but sometimes the
back key or menu didn't even work to cancel. And now ... it won't start
anymore. But wait, I shouldn't have tried so many times. I now get a few
popups that log-collector doesn't respond anymore.

What is the expected output?
I don't know. Never seen it work.

What do you see instead?
"Collecting logs" message.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0.0 on Androin 1.5 on Samsung i7500

Please provide any additional information below.

Log start/end times??

I don't understand how this app works.. It says it collects the log, but it
doesn't let you specify a time period to get log records for. Shouldn't there
be something like, start logging, now open my app which crashes, then stop
logging and send that report? Otherwise how will it capture the app crash
error? If the response is that it captures "all" log messages (whatever that
means), then it clearly does not, as I had a force close crash in my app and
there is nothing related to this in the log that was sent to me.

Log Collected Hangs GMAIL on ICS (4.0.1)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Send log to GMAIL

enter destination address and send

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest Log Collector available on market (9 JAN 2012)

Please provide any additional information below.

GMAIL is I believe struggling with teh amount of text and won't even let me
enter email address. I'd rather have the log sent as an attachement in any
case, can this be changed (or at least made an option)?

Add more information

Could you please add more information sources, with settings to select
what exactly user wants to send? Options I see, in addition to java logs
currently used:

- /proc/kmsg - current kernel log
- /proc/last_kmsg - kernel log before last reboot
- /proc/last_radio_log - logs from modem processor

- have option to add arbitrary files, there is plenty of info exposed through
procfs, sysfs and debugfs.

Perhaps, have "manifest" .xml file to encapsulate information what logs to
send. For external API, client may provide this manifest as parameter.

Root or not? Needs more description.

Does not mention whether it runs on ordinary devices, or only on rooted ones.
Description is sparse, which causes several questions to have appeared in
reviews.

3. Notice that the application loads to the main menu.

5. Notice that the application crashes.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I want to see the log from Starting the application to main menu crash. But

this applciation is giving more data and it takes more time to find where the
crash log is. So it will be better i get the log shortly and clearly.

Failure to send log on Archos 5S MID

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run Log Collector
2. Observe error - "Select an application to send the log, no applications
can perfform this action."
3. Application is non-responsive, but will exit.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I (guess) I would
see a drop-list of suitable applications for emailing the log file. No
such list is produced.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Log Collector v1.0.0
Archos v1.2/firmware 1.1.01

Please provide any additional information below.

The Archos device is a tablet with WiFi, not a phone (if that matters).
Screen resoluition is 800x480, on a 4.8" screen, so rather large for
handheld. I assume this may cause some application issues.....
