VARI giving blank images

Hi,

I am trying to use this code to generate some VARI images, however I am running into some issues getting the code to run properly. pyvips and Numpy installed using pip, and the python script runs, but it just creates a blank image using the sample images. Not sure if it a python version thing, or something simple I am missing, but any help would be appreciated!
