Right now the client (CC) has to connect directly to the host (the real computer where the mountpoint is) which is a headache with firewalls and portforwarding. Switching to have a server acting as a relay between pairs of clients would work much better.

Implementing a higher level protocol agnostic of the transport would be good for many reasons - improved reliability, better abstraction, easier development.

• readlink, mknod, symlink - probably not going to be implemented since CC doesn't support links anyways
• chmod, chown, utimens, getxattr, setxattr, listxattr - probably not going to be implemented since CC doesn't give us access to permissions or other metadata
• opendir
• statfs
• release, releasedir, flush, fsync, fsyncdir - not necessary with current setup but may change
• ioctl - not sure if there's a use case for it
• poll - not really necessary with current setup
• bmap, lock - pretty much irrelevant with CC
