Apologies for the late response on this, but what you're seeing is expected. You can take a customer's credit card and create a recurring payment from it, but unfortunately you cannot save that customer's credit card and turn it into a recurring payment at a later date.

This stems from the fact that the saved credit card interfaces with one Authorize.net API (the Customer Information Manager or CIM) and the recurring payments another (Automated Recurring Billing or ARB), and as far as I'm aware, they don't interoperate really at all.

In your app, you'll need to either set up the recurring charge when you take in the credit card information; or you'll need to automate charging your customers' cards yourself with saved cards.

I hope that makes sense.
