Wouldn't enabling the formatter as a save action eliminate the need for extra commits?

Save actions are enabled:

Its just there are lots of ways to miss it (e.g. the formatter and the strip trailing whitespace conflict with each other often, refactor/rename often changes the length of lines, but the save actions don't kick in there).
