FLL Coach Resources

This repository contains resources for coaching FIRST Lego League. All season specific documentation and code can be found on the team page here.

Contributing

  1. Fork it!
  2. Create your feature branch: git checkout -b my-new-feature
  3. Commit your changes: git commit -am 'Add some feature'
  4. Push to the branch: git push origin my-new-feature
  5. Submit a pull request :D

Typical Season Schedule

1. Learn about core values, set team goals and expectations (including document/code management)

2. Project research, field trip planning, fundraising kick-off

  • Learn about design strategies and types of attachments
  • Prototype attachments and robot components
  • Work with the strategy team to decide what challenges to work on (as soon as the competition is released)
  • Use the engineering design process to plan the robot and attachments
  • Get feedback from the team
  • Re-design the robot
  • Assess the design using the rubric
  • Re-design the robot
  • Build!
  • Complete the port diagram worksheet
  • Drop test, straight test, motor matching
  • Competition: write the Robot Executive Design Summary

Code

  • Learn how to code with EV3 programming blocks
  • Strategize and plan competition runs (coordinate with build team)

Typical Practice Schedule

  • Arrive and set-up practice board
  • Team meeting. What did I get done last time, what am I working on today, what would I like help with?
  • Divide up and and get to work on tasks
  • Meet up 15 minutes before practice ends to talk about what was frustrating today, what went well, what are we excited for, etc. Update planning board cards to reflect accomplishments.
