I've looked at your code. I like the idea!
All these forms works:
// External editor examples:
// $ export SEERGDB_CustomCodeEditor='geany "%{file}":%{line}'
// $ export SEERGDB_CustomCodeEditor='kate --line %{line} "%{file}"'
// $ export SEERGDB_CustomCodeEditor='gedit "%{file}" +%{line}'
// $ export SEERGDB_CustomCodeEditor='konsole -e vim "%{file}" +%{line}'
I'll work on implementing your code. Instead of an environment variable, I'll have a entry line in the Editor's config page.

I've finished the implementation of your feature. It's in the mainline now.
Instead of an environment variable to set which editor to use, I added an entry in Seer's editor config page.
I also provided some examples in the help text there.
And the RMB context menu has option. I remove the text about "at line number" in the context menu, however, it does use the line number when opening the file in the external editor.

env vars are great to implement many ideas quickly, but in the config it is always better, thx!
