not valid xml tags

Another problem I have is, that some xml tags are overlapping.
If you do not understand my problem here, I can expain it in detail.

Example:

<author><surname>Heinen <author><given-names>MM</surname></author></given-names>, <surname>Persoon <author><given-names>A</surname></author></given-names>, <surname>Kerkhof <author><given-names>P</surname></author></given-names>, <surname>Otero <author><given-names>M</surname></author></given-names></author>, <author><surname>Achterberg </surname><given-names>T</given-names>.</author>
