DimensionalThreading

Mod name
DimensionalThreading

Curseforge link
N/A

Modrinth link
N/A

Other link
https://github.com/WearBlackAllDay/DimensionalThreading

What it does
This project is a free and open-source Minecraft mod which optimizes the processing of multiple Dimensions, by assigning them independent threads. It works on both the client and server, and does not require the mod to be installed on both sides.

Why should it be in the modpack
Improves (internal) server performance for users who have a few threads to spare (quad-core processor or better).

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Users with very few threads (low-end PCs with dual-core etc.) might have worse performance than without the mod. Also has no CurseForge/Modrinth page, but is nevertheless really stable.

Bobby

Bobby

Curseforge link
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/bobby

Modrinth link
https://modrinth.com/mod/bobby

Other link
https://github.com/Johni0702/bobby

What it does
Bobby is a Minecraft mod which allows for render distances greater than the server's view-distance setting. It accomplishes this goal by recording and storing (in .minecraft/.bobby) all chunks sent by the server which it then can load and display at a later point when the chunk is outside the server's view-distance.

Why should it be in the modpack
Because players can see further than what the server's view-distance is set to, if they want to.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Starlight currently has an issue with it, but Phosphor works fine: PaperMC/Starlight#38

CF: actual Fabric modpack

Curseforge is planning to add a new Fabric modpack variant to its launcher and site.

For Fabulously Optimized this probably means at least a new version that is incompatible with the previous ones and at most a new listing (hopefully not). Since it is a major release, it makes sense for the version to be 2.0.0.

Idea: https://curseforge-ideas.overwolf.com/ideas/CF-I-9
Sneak peek: https://us15.campaign-archive.com/?u=5542885c5f38ae9a4108ab154&id=93737c315a#templateBody
Roadmap: https://trello.com/c/DXPcOenk/279-fabric-support-bite1

Also postponing #33/#25 until then because it doesn't help if people have to move to new system anyway.

Options.txt

What options should be changed as a default to warrant including an options.txt (as default or with a delta diff mod)?

Current ideas:

  • Disable autojump - autoJump true
  • No third-party warning - skipMultiplayerWarning true
  • No starting tutorial - tutorialStep none
  • GUI scale 3? - guiScale 3
  • B/W title screen (1.17)? - darkMojangStudiosBackground‌ true
  • Zoom key
  • ...

Also I need to make a wiki page describing the changes.

Lithium with Hopper Optimizations

Mod name
Hopper Optimizations (+ required custom Lithium fork)

Curseforge link
N/A

Modrinth link
N/A

Other link
https://github.com/2No2Name/hopperOptimizations
Custom Lithium fork see at releases page

What it does
Hopper Optimizations is a fabric mod that reduces hopper, hopper minecart and comparator lag a lot without breaking any contraptions or odd vanilla behaviors. This branch of hopper optimizations requires installing a custom fork of Lithium.

Why should it be in the modpack
It drastically improves hopper performance on (internal) servers without any drawbacks.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
It is really stable and has no known incompatibilities; the only issue is that there's no CurseForge/Modrinth page. Which isn't really a bad thing, since pre-compiled jars are available on the GitHub releases page anyway.
Also, one could argue that requiring a custom Litium-fork would be a bad thing, which would usually be true. But in this case it's not, since HopperOptimizations is made by the lead-developer of Lithium anyway, so he knows what he does.

What it does
Both add support for playing old servers in new client and they complement each other with features

Why should it be in the modpack
So people can play on old servers with the modpack

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Server incompatibilities, AntiGhost incompatibility, potential bans on some servers, no way to completely opt out

In initial testing it certainly isn't 4 seconds, maybe even slower than comparable mods
Edit: now in CF, needs retesting
Edit 2: apparently it needs newer Sodium

No Annoying Settings

No Annoying Settings

https://github.com/Luligabi1/NoAnnoyingSettings

This is a very simple, client-side only mod that will automatically disable auto-jump and Minecraft's Music every game restart. This is mostly targeted for modpacks and users of the vanilla launcher, as it erases your previous settings if you open an older version of Minecraft, but most likely can be used by anyone without any incompatibilities. If for any reason you want only one of the two to be disabled, you can use the config located at

If the user makes use of the Vanilla Minecraft Launcher, everytime they launch an older version of Minecraft, their options.txt file will be reset, creating annoyance with some of the questionable default settings minecraft uses. This mod slightly reduces this annoyance by ensuring every start that the music and auto-jump will always be turned off.

Starlight

Mod name
Starlight

Curseforge link
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/starlight

Modrinth link

Other link
https://github.com/Spottedleaf/Starlight

What it does
Replaces the vanilla light engine for claimingly 25x faster performance

Why should it be in the modpack
Better light performance, could replace Phosphor, now owned by Paper which means more potential developers

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Currently (forever?) incompatible with vanilla light format, so when the mod is disabled (for any reason), the world loads longer. Still needs more evaluation on its sustainability and mod compatibility - even the developer itself claims it "may not improve FPS and has mod incompatibilities".

Additional details

Important caveats: https://github.com/Spottedleaf/Starlight/blob/fabric/TECHNICAL_DETAILS.md#important-details-to-note
The caveats make it not worth it in the short term, I will revisit this in 1.18.

Also note-to-self: when this is added, add a disclaimer about light resets if vanilla or other mods are used.

Edit: I now have a plan™

  1. 1.18.1 will be released by FO without Starlight
  2. FO will make some updates to get parity with 1.18 and resolve any important issues (crashes, multiplayer bug etc)
  3. FO will include Starlight and ask users to vote whether it is better than not having it
  4. FO will update mods etc.
  5. FO will include Phosphor and ask users to vote whether it is better than Starlight
  6. FO will make final decision on which mod to use in the future

Edit: People have voted and 1.18+ will include Starlight.

Other link

What it does
Adds culling to leaf blocks, providing a huge performance boost over vanilla.

Why should it be in the modpack
Improves performance when looking at leaves.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Sacrifices a bit of visual fidelity (pretty much like Optifine's smart leaves, as it's almost a 1:1 copy)

What it does
Shows attack indicator on more cases, like drawing a bow and breaking a block

Why should it be in the modpack
Improves the UX by a small tweak

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
May cause confusion as it behaves slightly differently from vanilla

RecipeUnlocker

Mod name
RecipeUnlocker

Curseforge link

Modrinth link

Other link
https://github.com/gbl/RecipeUnlocker

What it does
Removes the recipe unlocking mechanic

Why should it be in the modpack
Unlocking recipes makes no sense for survival Minecraft, only custom maps. This is evident by Bedrock Edition as well, where this feature does not exist.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
No license, not on CF, animations may distract, unlocking tooltips must still be disabled with another mod

What it does
Allows changing the scaling of the renderer, taking high-res screenshots

Why should it be in the modpack
Optifine parity, faster high-res screenshots than Fabrishot

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack
Untested, I think rendering scale = high res screenshot scale (which means using more resources overall, not only when taking screenshots)
