The location (standard/left/right) of a key pressed can be identified through KeyboardEvent.location (http://www.w3.org/TR/DOM-Level-3-Events/#widl-KeyboardEvent-location) attribute.

Currently, this attribute gets set correctly in Firefox on Linux when a modifier key is pressed (i.e., when a Ctrl/Shift key is pressed, it can be identified if it is a left Ctrl/Shift key or right Ctrl/Shift key), but it always gets set to DOM_KEY_LOCATION_STANDARD regardless of which modifier key is pressed in Google Chrome on Linux (https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/forum/#!topic/blink-dev/Znyl5a96oDc). This issue has not been verified in Windows versions of these browsers yet.
