How do you handle application healthiness?

Hey, nice article and PoC.

I was wondering how you're managing app healthiness as I couldn't find anything here or in the article related to how you tell the load balancer to stop sending new requests to the instance you're trying to update. If you really want to perform a zero downtime deployment you need to make sure that the LB is not sending any other request to the app before actually initiating the JVM shutdown process right?
