Adding `<!DOCTYPE html>` causes incorrect page rendering and style issues in various browsers

Description:
I am experiencing an issue where the pages of my websites are not rendering correctly when the <!DOCTYPE html> declaration is added. The CSS styles are not being applied, causing the layout and design of the page to appear broken or unstyled. This issue occurs across multiple browsers.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add <!DOCTYPE html> in the first line of the files giorgioreale.xyz/templates/base.html.twig and cv.giorgioreale.xyz/templates/base.html.twig

  1. open any page of the websites in multiple browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox).

Expected behavior:
The page should render with the proper CSS styles applied, displaying the correct layout and design.

Actual behavior:
The CSS styles are not being applied to the page, resulting in a broken layout and unstyled appearance.

Additional information:

  • The issue persists even when the CSS file is in the same directory as the HTML file.
  • The issue occurs on both local and live environments.
  • The issue is only present when the <!DOCTYPE html> declaration is included, removing it causes the page to render correctly with styles applied.
  • The page is not rendered correctly, and the style is not being applied as expected in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Chromium (versions 112 - 113). The issue does not occur in Mozilla Firefox (version 112).
