doc's Issues

Documentation notification mail

Hello;
Despite the best will in the world, I think that the documentation concerning the email notification templates is not complete enough or thin enough, especially for the latest version of GLPI. Would it be possible to consider populating a little more and pushing the explanations a little more

Don't understand how the help files / sites work

Okay i read this below but i don't find a tools or docs dir outside from plugins or lib dir and i can't believe that this is located in lib.

To test Markdown only copyt fr/en/image directories to daux/docs directory provide in tools

Improve documentation about ldap sync and timezones

In the documentation, we have the current statement :

In case the server hosting the LDAP directory is in a different timezone as GLPI, it is necessary to modify the Timezone variable to account for the difference.

In a lot of cases, it may be not an issue as it falls right but this can raise more questions but when you think about it, it's not that simple.

Use case 1 :

  • a server configured as UTC or GMT with tzdata in database
  • GLPI configured with a timezone Europe/Paris.
  • An LDAP server on windows with a Europe/Paris timezone

Does the admin have to configure the LDAP with a timezone or keep GMT ?
As stated in the documentation, we should not change anything

Use case 2 (corner case) :

  • a server configured as UTC or GMT with tzdata in database
  • GLPI configured with a timezone Europe/Paris.
  • An LDAP server on windows with a America/New-York timezone

Does the admin have to configure the LDAP with a timezone ? I suppose (GMT-4). But how to handle DST ? Manually ?
Note : this case is obviously exaggerated but in case of a worldwide use with multiple LDAP servers, it is not that stupid

Ask for clarifications :
This may be confusing : users tends to install GLPI without really taking care of this. Also, we do not have a clear understanding of why it is necessary and what are the impacts in case of a wrong configuration. Time management is not a simple thing and a clarification may be usefull.

Also, and i may raise another issue in the main project, we are not talking about the same thing everywhere : in some places we are talking in GMT and offset, in others we are talking about localized timezone (which implies the handling of DST)

Validation: confusing interface

When a validation is requested, the validator is requested to validate the ticket in an interface where the Global approval status comes before the specific request to the user so that the user tend to change the Global approval status instead of his own validation.
Then it is not possible to define different permissions between validate a ticket and doing a global validation.
Another point is the "minimum validation required". really clear how it works but the labels of the dropdown menu is not clear at all for a normal user. I would change to something like "approved if one approves", "approved if majority approves" and "approved if everybody approves".

Rules for assigning an item to an entity

doc/source/modules/administration/rules/inventorytools.rst
"A certain number of criteria are available: those containing generic fields (name, description, serial number, domain, IP address, subnet) but also fields coming from the inventory tool if the tool provides them."

but here is only one criteria - source

this criteria are in fusioninventory rules.

GLPI 9.5.6

Good install pratices

Many users will just copy/paste the glpi directory in their document root.

This is not a good idea on production servers; GLPI provide a way to move config and files directories. This must be documented on the installl stage as a good practice.

Convert .md files to .rst?

Hi there. I've noticed there are many .md files left in the source/ directory.

Would it help if I convert those file to .rst? I plan to use pandoc for this task, and some proofreading would certainly be needed.

Let me know, thanks!

A word about opcache and TCPDF issues

By default, font files from TCPDF will be loaded in the opcache... Causing oom restart quite often.

This happens mainly under some circumstances, but a word about that in the install docs may be usefull.

generic ticket template error on css

hi,

In tests performed, it seems to me that the css class TicketTask is not being applied.

When it is for a new follow-up, it works.

When it is for a task, it does not.
Captura de tela_2022-06-02_13-19-01

I only copied and pasted the codes.

Any ideas?

Add documentation about Passive DCE Equipment / Passive Devices

There are a Asset type called "Passive Devices" that seems to be called Passive DCE Equipment in the code.
But there is no documentation on how to use it.
The PR glpi-project/glpi#7118 mentions that it would solve issues with patch panels in racks.

Sure, I can add a passive device as a patch panel in a rack and even create sockets on it. But I don't know how to connect other equipment to those sockets.

Some documentation would be nice. And if I could figure out how it worked I would have been able to contribute to the documentation but I'm kind of lost.

Contributions

Assuming this is the repository for the current GLPI documentation, would you mind if I contribute as my time allows?

If so are there any considerations I should have beside branching and submitting merge requests?
