Tried the script and got version 2.5.15

Hello,

I wanted to install gphoto2 via your script. It basically ran through, but in the end, I got this:

libgphoto2_port 0.12.0 iolibs: disk ptpip serial usb1 usbdiskdirect usbscsi, gcc, ltdl, USB, serial without locking

I expected version 2.5.22, as stated in the script.
Did I something wrong ?

Thanks in advance,

When attempting to build libgphoto2 it fails

When attempting to build libgphoto2 it fails

raspbian Jessie stuck on libgphoto2 2.5.4

Hey,
running gphoto2-updater on a vanilla raspbian jessie Image seems to fail updating the libgphoto2. while everything updates fine only libgphoto2 remains Version 2.5.4. Any idea to fix this is appreciated.
Cheers Ben

P.S.: any chance telling when gphoto2-updater 2.5.9 will be available :-)

cannot download and install

Hi there,

on my Raspberry Pi 3B instead of simply installing I get this message:

Creating temporary folder

gphoto2-temp-folder created

Downloading libgphoto2

Please run git without sudo, your regular user account is enough :)
Unable to get libgphoto2
Exiting...

So... what can I do here?

Debian package migration

As you may already know, the Raspberry Pi Foundation recently released the Raspberry Pi Zero. As far as I know, this supports gphoto2 just as well as the other boards. The issue is that they don't have networking capabilities so this current updater will not work for most people. Is this a challenge that we want to address or should we just say it's not supported?

I'm pretty sure this could be implemented by downloading gphoto2 and its dependencies onto external storage (sd, usb, etc.) from a computer with internet. The storage device could then be connected to the Pi Zero and the packages could be built and installed from there. There are obviously going to be some additional complexities for the script it we go this way though.

Edit: Yeah, I just remembered the A and A+ don't have Ethernet either, but they do have a type a usb port which does make things easier than the type micro-B ports on the zero, so this questions is still relevant.

Updater hangs

I've tried this a couple of times, it just seems to hang half way through the operation... not sure what to try?

I get to:

Compiling and installing libgphoto2

and it copies a bunch of files until it gets to this one then stops:

Copying file po/remove-potcdate.sin

There doesn't appear to be any CPU, disk or network activity at this point.

Always get version 2.5.12 of libphoto2

Dear gonzalo,
I try to use your ghoto2-updater on a Raspberry Pi 3B, but with whatever option I run your script I always get

For my camera I need 2.5.21.1 or later libgphoto2 .

libgphoto2 >= 2.5.6 not met. Found: 2.4.14

Hi,

I used the following command line : wget https://github.com/gonzalo/gphoto2-updater/releases/download/2.5.7/gphoto2-updater.sh && chmod +x gphoto2-updater.sh && sudo ./gphoto2-updater.sh

during the "make" of libgphoto2 I guess, I obtain a first error message:

Then I get
checking if libgphoto2 version is matching requirement >= 2.5.6... no

I deleted "/usr/local/lib/libgphoto*" and started again and made sure that nothing was linked to gphoto in /usr/lib...

Please advice on to proceed

Christophe

Trouble updating

Hi. I've been having trouble getting my version updated to support a camera that was just added in .12 and .13. Running Raspberry Pi model B with Jessie/Pixel.
Ran the script on the pi tonight and still can't get libgphoto2 to update.
Even tried starting with a fresh Pixel install on the SD.
Ok this is strange, but worked. I thought about trying to remove libgphoto2 after running the script and suddenly gphoto2 --version shows libgphoto2 as 2.5.12 instead of the 2.5.4 it was showing.
Gphoto2 --auto-detect shows the camera now.

I ran sudo apt-get remove libgphoto2*.
Maybe something needs to be updated in the install process?
I'd still like to get on .13, but after trying for almost 8 hours to get this far I'm happier.
Now to see if I can get my Ubuntu working.

Capture not supported by SONY UMC-R10C

Hi,
I installed the gphoto2 library using the sudo apt-get install gphoto2 command. My camera was not getting auto detected. I then updated the library through https://github.com/gonzalo/gphoto2-updater/ and the camera got detetcted using the gphoto2 --auto-detect command. It is listed ined in the supported cameras list on gphoto2 on site and sudo --list-cameras too gave me this camera in the list. But capture-image and --trigger-capture command doesnt work.. Ive listed outputs of some commands below.
Any help appreciated

root@raspberrypi:~/astrock# cat test.js
var gphoto2 = require('gphoto2')

camera = undefined
var GPhoto = new gphoto2.GPhoto2();

console.log('[trying to get Camera]')

is that version wrong?

Permission problem for non-root user

This is on Raspbian Jessie Lite:

I am running into a permission error stating that I cannot claim the USB device. Running with sudo works fine.

gphoto2 v2.5.11
libgphoto2 2.5.4
libgphoto2_port 0.12.0

lsusb ID: 04a9:30ee, Canon, Inc. EOS 350D

I then reinstalled gphoto2 from apt-get, there I can run gphoto2 with the user pi (regular user). I checked and it created a new rules-file and saved the existing one with a .save extension. Running a diff on both files just states one line with a possible typo: Instead of GROUP="plugdev" in the .save file it says GUP=plugdev" on one single line. I can't tell if this one is the culprid.

Cannot Compile!

Near the end, errors occur.

Libraries have been installed in:
/usr/local/lib

If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:

  • add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
    during execution
  • add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
    during linking
  • use the `-Wl,-rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
  • have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf'

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for

more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for

more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

git fails for libgphoto2 and gphoto2

Very nice script, by the way! So much easier than doing all this manually. Thank you for your efforts!

When I ran the script I got an error about trying to run git with sudo. I had to change

'''
if (git clone $branch_gphoto https://github.com/gphoto/gphoto2.git)
'''
to
'''
if (/usr/bin/git clone $branch_gphoto https://github.com/gphoto/gphoto2.git)
'''
for both gphoto2 and libgphoto2.

I'm still learning about linux, so hopefully my fix wasn't a big no-no. Hopefully this will help you or someone else.

Olympus cameras not working on Buster

Hello,

I've had issues with Olympus cameras on buster-based OS (Raspberry Pi OS and Python docker images) linked to the wrong libusb being used.
Olympus cameras are not compatible with libusb0, they require libusb1. See gphoto/libgphoto2#229 and #36.

I'm going to submit a PR to force the version of libusb, if it's ok with you.

Thanks!

autopoint is missing

Script was failing, after 'apt-get install autopoint' it worked. This was in ubuntu 14.04.2

gphoto 2.5.5.1 is released

Meanwhile libgphoto 2.5.5.1 with a few regression fixes is released. It might be interesting to update.

Changelog:
libgphoto2 2.5.5.1 release

This is a regression fix release for 2.5.5..

ptp2:
* fixed all Nikon S* coolpix that are not Nikon 1
* Nikon: exit from potential endless loop on trigger capture

canon:
* On EOS/Rebel DSLR do not query or set "zoom" as its manual always

translations:
* updated polish, ukrainian, vietnamese

Tarball can be found at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gphoto/files/libgphoto/2.5.5.1/

Make tag for each gphoto version

It would be much helpful when trying to install given gphoto version. Then we could use https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gonzalo/gphoto2-updater/[v2.5.5]/gphoto2-updater.sh url form. Otherwise we need to resort to using commit SHA.

Thanks for consideration and for such a helpful project :)

libusb 1 confusion

can you perhaps try to use the system libusb 1 ...?

building a different libusb 1 version than the one on system, but using them causes reports where
libusb_strerror is missing

libusb-1.0-0-dev

is the ubuntu packagename for the development files I think.

Some nikon cameras can't capture movies when gphoto2 is installed with updater

This is a migration of this issue, after we narrowed it down:
gphoto/libgphoto2#418

Nikon cameras with electronic shutters throw 0x200f PTP access denied when attempting to set applicationmode (d1f0, which is set implicitly when capturing movies), but only if gphoto2 was installed with gphoto2-updater.

To be clear, the issue does not appear to occur on Nikon cameras with mechanical shutters, and it does not occur at all if gphoto2 was installed as a package via apt.

I know this sounds weird, but we reproduced this with 100% consistency on multiple machines.
Eventually, we narrowed it down to the libgphoto2-port12 package (which thankfully still exists for raspbian, while the gphoto2 package is hopelessly outdated).

When we installed libgphoto2 with the gphoto2-updater, and then additionally installed the libgphoto2-port12 package, the operation worked, though gphoto2 --version still shows the same version for libgphoto2_port (though with a slightly different description).

I can't speculate about potential root causes of the issue, and I'll admit that it's somewhat esoteric and easy to fix once the culprit is known, but somebody might want to take a look at this at some point.

camlibs/ptp2/library.c file not found

Hi,
Due to a bug inside libgphoto2 I need to manually edit a file. But I cannot find the file that is mentioned here gphoto/libgphoto2#13
I wonder if that is because I used your script to update gphoto2 on my Raspbian Jessie.
Sorry, I am just not an expert in this.... :-)
Thanks, Ben

Install libgphoto2 to system (?)

I used your fantastic install and update script on my RaspberryPI. However, I'm experiencing the issue documented here where I can't set my configurations.

The suggested fix is to install libgphoto2 into system, and not /usr/local. When I look through my file system after running the script, it appears that libgphoto2 was installed in /usr/local. Is there a way that the script can install it into system?

Sorry, I'm pretty green when it comes to linux and a lot of this stuff, so this my issue may be bogus, but its the only end I've reached in my research.

What's the reason for the script?

Why is this script needed if gphoto2 is in the Raspbian repos? Is it only for getting newer versions of gphoto2 before they're added to the repo?

Problems with sh file

Hi Gonzalo,
I'm having problems installing the libraries on a raspberri pi 2.
I have the lite version of jessie installed and cannot install libgphoto2.
