oswaldfont's Introduction

Oswald

Oswald is a reworking of the classic gothic typeface style historically represented by designs such as 'Alternate Gothic'. The characters of Oswald have been re-drawn and reformed to better fit the pixel grid of standard digital screens. Oswald is designed to be used freely across the internet by web browsers on desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices.

oswaldfont's Issues

Hinted OTF

Hello,
Please release OTF version with psautohint.
(on Windows with smoothing disabled, hinted OTF version of the font at small sizes looks much better)

Missing characters for different font weights - MacOS Sierra & Chrome

I have an issue where websites using the Oswald font are only rendering a fraction of the characters (so, for example "HI THERE" might appear as "HHR").

After much Googling I found no solution, but there is another person who reports exactly the same issue (same OS, same missing characters):
https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/15133278?hl=en

There's a screenshot in the linked post above, which makes the issue very obvious.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss as to how to even debug this.

DSIG table needs removed

FontBakery gives this warning This font has a digital signature (DSIG table) which is only required - even if only a placeholder - on old programs like MS Office 2013 in order to work properly. The current recommendation is to completely remove the DSIG table. [code: found-DSIG] .

update metadata

Can we remove my name from the metadata?

before:

In 2016 the family was updated by Kalapi Gajjar and Alexei Vanyashin to complete the work started by Vernon, and support languages that use the Cyrillic script. In January 2019, it was updated with a variable font Weight axis.

I actually didn't work on Oswald in 2016. I fixed a single diacritic issue without touching Cyrillic. I reviewed Vernon's Cyrillic in 2013, from that time the Cyrillic quality was 3/5 stars. This project would benefit from refining the Cyrillic.

Add 0x02bb (ʻ)

I'd like to request just one more character to make all languages currently supported 100%

Italic font style not working in Chrome

It states in the file FONTLOG.txt that italic has been added to all font logs (as of 2013), but it does not work in Chrome (it does work in Safari) and there is no mention of italics what so ever on the website. What is the status of italics in general and italic+Chrome specifically?

Empty Cyrillic Glyphs on Google Fonts

Some Cyrillic glyphs do not contain outlines

These fonts are being served

It's pretty crazy but nobody has raised this issue yet.

Imo, this is a fairly serious issue. If a user types any of these characters, they don't get a fallback, they just get whitespace. I hope #9 fixes this. @NDISCOVER did you add outlines for these?
