How to calculate that a vehicle is ENTERING or LEAVING a geofence using KSQL?

  1. Using KSQL, How to calculate that a vehicle is ENTERING or LEAVING a geofence? Can you please explain with the help of example KSQL queries?

Reading through the readme.md on the path https://github.com/gschmutz/various-demos/tree/master/kafka-geofencing did not give much idea about the same. Although, a method to calculate ENTERING/LEAVING is present in the https://github.com/gschmutz/various-demos/blob/master/kafka-geofencing/kafka-streams/geo-utils/src/main/java/com/thyssenkrupp/tkse/GeoFenceUtil.java file.

Calculating INSIDE or OUTSIDE seemed very intuitive using the geofence UDF in KSQL queries but how to store the 'statusBefore' value and use it in the UDF again to calculate ENTERING/LEAVING is not clear.

  1. Also, please add details about the LASTVALUE functions used in the previously mentioned readme.md file. Is it a UDF?
