ohio's Issues

Add Sponsors

Sponsors need to be added to the website. We only have 3 right now .

footer

instead of copyright, change to "Made with love by Buckeye Hackers, Open Source Club, Electronics Club, ACM-W, Mobile App Developers Club, CWDG, Engineering Career Services, College of Engineering, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and University Libraries."

or something like that

Setup web hooks

Currently middleman branch is set up to auto-depoy to gh-pages branch. gh-pages hosts the actual page. You auto deploy by executing middleman deploy

The site is located at http://www.buckhacks.org/ohio/ or buckeyehackers.github.io/ohio

Currently all the changes that we have been requested to make are on the middleman branch. The google sheet integration and registration will happen soon.

Spelling Errors

... Also, there is a slight typo here: Over 200 undergraduate and graduate student programmers built working software and demonstrate it to a live audience of students, faculty, and representatives from tech companies. Students competed for over $5000 in prizes and will be judged on categories including technical difficulty, creativity, usefulness, and presentation.

It should say “and demonstrated it to a live…” as well as “and were judged on categories including…”..

Braindead stupid website made out of a single html file

Can we just edit http://getskeleton.com/ and have a VERY SIMPLE AND QUICK FIVE MINUTE VERSION up on hack.osu.edu first?

The reason is, the people who need to see the version now are people who want to simply see the website NOW and hand over thousands of dollars, and dont really care about design.

After that, we can do a sick ruby on rails with mustache handlebar fixie template situation type thing.

Publish a "Steal These Ideas" page

  • Clean up submitted ideas (remove spam)
  • Publish them using Sheetrock to a page
  • Share via Twitter / hackohio2015 slack to participants
  • Link this URL in the participants portal

Ideally, this goes live Nov 14th

Sponsor pics overlap on mobile

On mobile, some of the sponsor pics overlap. This can probably be temporarily fixed by moving some of the images around until they don't overlap.

Webhooks

Git webhooks need to be added to the server. The live site on hack.osu.edu should match this repo.

Ping @mattfzyx for server information.

2016 page

  • switch to this page after nov 15
  • announce prize winners during showcase
  • 2016 page, along with sponsor interest form ( Google form for expressing interest to partner with OHI/O

CSS performance

Scrolling etc is a little jarring, mainly due to reflows etc. Perhaps starting with Skeleton as a CSS base, and then moving over all the backgrounds etc will solve this. (Skeleton already has the menu CSS / everything else you need)

Good programming = being ok with throwing out code

Add Venue

  • Change "November 14th-15th" to "November 14th-15th at the Ohio Union"
  • Add Picture of the venue: http://groups.northwestern.edu/nsc/wp-content/themes/NSC-Custom/images/photos/osu-ballroom.jpg
  • Add Google Maps as an iframe: <iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d3056.4802324463963!2d-83.00859630000001!3d39.99771940000001!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x88388ebf772f0aad%3A0x3a1cdcf1649d2a83!2sThe+Ohio+Union+at+Ohio+State+University!5e0!3m2!1sen!2s!4v1443944742024" width="600" height="450" frameborder="0" style="border:0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Use partials

If we grouped everything as a partial, we wouldn't need to edit index.html every time.

I would recommend angularJS or Handlebars. Middleman seems like a pain?

(re)Enable the 'Community Events' portion of the main website

  • Confirm the google spreadsheet tool can be used by OHI/O leaders to post upcoming events
  • allow permissions for appropriate people (Julia, Arnab, Jack, Caitlyn, Connor, Swarup, Courtney, etc.)
  • write up short tutorial on how they may use it to post hype events and community events and share it!

Clean up CSS

This doesn't really have time constraint or even need to be done, but it should make the initial page load a little bit faster.

Add a Prizes Section / Page

  • List out prizes with picture, and criterion for prizes (including door prizes)
  • Share with MattF for his keynote

Schedule

Make a schedule section of the website.

Refactor student org information

We should't have information about our student organizations on the hackathon website. We should direct it to buckeye hackers or provide some sort of external link.
