Perhaps we can pretty much copy and paste the Research dataset metadata record and shorten the abstract and title to reflect the real-time aspect.
Yes, and the 'provisional' aspect.

Here's the first draft of the provisional metadata record.

One thing to think about, I think it would be good to have a title template for each dataset to help distinguish which one is provisional/realtime/research/climate
I could not find the previous metadata record for this dataset. This date from prior to the metadata form so it's not available in the system right now.
Perhaps, just putting those keywords at the end (ex: title...[Provisional, Real-time]) would a good way. Putting them at the end would keep the different record versions together if sorted alphabetically. If prior, then we would regroup all the common datasets together. Let me know your thoughts!

I think this is it. I was not able to find it last week though, so maybe it was temporarily MIA.

Yeah, I'm not sure of the best way to distinguish them. We may be breaking new ground here --- or at least finding that there is no common/standard way to go about this. I'm not sure how to advise specifically, but we need to keep the intended audience in mind when finalizing dataset titles and descriptions. It gets tricky because we are trying to make one things work for both scientific and non-scientific users; local and global audience.
A similar thing applies to dataset location: NCEI datasets embed the location name in the title, like in this example (High-resolution record of surface seawater carbon dioxide (CO2) content collected from Hakai Institute Quadra Island Field Station in Hyacinthe Bay, British Columbia, Canada). This makes the dataset title quite a bit longer though, so it likely gets truncated when displayed in certain UIs that output the dataset title.
@jenjax2 make have some suggestions and/or she can bring this forward to the CIOOS science committee to develop some guidelines and best practices for dataset titles and descriptions.
In the near term, I recommend including 'provisional' in the title, the description and as a keyword. I would likely include it near the start to the dataset title, so it can be easily distinguished from a related research dataset when viewed in a metadata catalogue list.

Thanks Ray for the feedback,
I created an issue related to this QuadraBoL dataset which lists the different things that would need to get updated within the ERDDAP dataset and its CKAN record. #24

@raytula After the meeting with Wiley last week I think we can now assume that all the OA real-time datasets are approved for making it to the production CKAN and ERDDAP

This dataset is now available online. We can close that issue!
